Middle School at OSNAS consists of grades 7-8. In Middle School, students experience full departmentalization in which they move from class to class for each subject. With a 5:1 student to teacher ratio and smaller class sizes, students receive and great degree of attention and personal care that is unrivaled in the public school system.
As for curriculum, students take courses in Math, English, Social Studies, Science, Bible, Art, Computer, Choir, PE, and Health. In line with the school’s classical focus, students learn Latin and Greek vocabulary to prepare students for language learning, effective communication and SAT success. All classes are taught from a Christian perspective and worldview since it is our sincere belief that all truth is God’s truth. This means that everything that is true has its source in God and if we leave God out of the picture, we end up with an incomplete and distorted view of reality. Field trips to local venues are also offered to give students memorable opportunities to learn in a hands-on environment outside the classroom.
Since we understand that parents are the most important and influential factor in a child’s development, OSNAS views education as a partnership in which parental involvement is welcomed and encouraged. Parents are informed on a regular basis through internet resources, conferences and open communication. This helps parents prepare their children for upcoming homework, exams and activities. Parents are also invited to take part in the PTO that plans student and family activities such as LEGO Night, Summer Swim in December, Child/Parent Valentine’s Day Dance, and more.
Middle School students are offered opportunities to lead and grow in heart, mind body and spirit through extracurricular activities. Students can participate in the annual Christmas and Spring choir and band concerts. Middle Schoolers can also play on the Middle School Basketball Team as well as on High School sports teams if they pass a physical fitness test (see Athletics).
