Our Savior New American School has adapted to the online learning landscape as the field of education moves into a combination of in-class and online learning. Upon a peek into any given classroom, seeing teachers with students both in class and on-screen has become the new normal, and that’s not the only change at OSNAS…
Formally the Art and Music wing at OSNAS, with God’s grace, hard work, and creativity, a beautiful transformation is now complete! Our Savior was thrilled to unveil the new STEM room at the start of the 2020/2021 school year! STEM, or Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math is an integral part of looking toward the future and the momentum of the world moving further and faster with technology. The room itself is a reflection of this as well; a massive 1300 ft2 room, built with an open floorplan, multiple learning/activity areas clad with technology throughout. As the room is entered, the student is greeted by hand painted murals by OSNAS’s very own Art teacher, Mrs. Melissa Hin. Two large flat screens are wirelessly synced to laptops and tablets used by the teacher and class. The room is set up to allow students to flourish while learning, experimenting, building and solving problems. Unencumbered by traditional desks, all of the seating is on rollers to allow groups to break up into individual work and vice versa.
STEM is not only a class at Our Savior New American School, but a club as well! On Monday of each week, from 3:15pm-4:50pm, Mr. Kasibante leads 7th-12th grade club members in fun STEM experiments and activities. For the younger group, Mrs. Arns leads 1st-6th grade STEM club members on Wednesday of each week from 3:15pm-4:30pm. Producing a cloud in a jar, coding a LEGO maze, creating crystal sun catchers and making the ever-famous magnetic slime are just some of the fun ideas that the STEM room might see this year.
A special thanks goes out to all of the volunteers who put in their relentless effort and hard work to make the STEM room as special as it has become. Mrs. Hin spent her summer painting a mural on the walls of the STEM room, a reminder that “In the beginning, God created….” to spark creativity in all who join in on the STEM experience. Bob Bellis and Tip Parker, servants in Christ and members of the OSNAS family spent countless hours on the construction of the room itself. The administrative team and their creativity is evident in even the quickest glance at the new room, needless to say even more so once the experiments and activities began! By God’s grace, Our Savior New American School has grown even more, rising with the ever-changing technological landscape’s paradigm. Thank you to all who have participated in making the new STEM room all that it has become. Stay tuned for updates and articles about the goings-on of the Our Savior New America STEM room, STEM class and STEM club!
