Rebecca Young
Biology & Physical Science
My name is Rebecca Young. I have been a Christian for the past 33 years of my life. I met the Lord while I was attending Stony Brook University, where I was studying biology. An older student on campus invited me to study the Bible, and I began my Christian journey. I also played basketball for the Stony Brook University women’s basketball team, which is where I met my husband who also played Basketball for Stony Brook University.
I left Stony Brook University in my senior year to return to my hometown, Staten Island, to be with my family. It was there that I continued my education at the city University of New York in Staten Island and received my BS in psychology.
I have been married for 26 years and I have been blessed to raise three children, two daughters and a son, who I homeschooled for their entire education. God blessed me with great success to help my children achieve an associates degree while completing high school, and they all went on to attend Christian universities where they received additional higher education degrees. My daughters completed college with honors, cum laude, one with a BS in multidisciplinary studies, and the other a BBS in finance and an MBA. My son graduated high honors, magna cum laude, with his bachelors degree in psychology, and then he went on to get his MBA as well. He then spent a year in Oregon doing a preaching internship where he learned many things about how to lead people to Christ.
While I raised my children and homeschooled them, I also owned and managed a small Christian preschool, which I ran for 15 years. In my recent years, I have been substitute teaching in the middle country school district as well as the New York City Department of education. I feel blessed to now have been called to teach biology and physical science at Our Savior.
My hobbies are cooking, baking, coaching basketball, public speaking, traveling, and playing sports as best as I can at my age. I also own a homemade cookie business, so baking is probably one of my favorite things to do next to playing basketball. My favorite pastime is spending it with friends and family. I love it when my family comes together! I am blessed to have an extended family of my parents, my children, siblings, nieces, and nephews, who are also in the Lord with me, with whom I get to worship with together every Sunday. I thank the Lord for my many blessings!
