Ask and It Will Be Given to You
Dear OSNAS Family,
Last year our school learned about the major Old Testament historical events in our Daily Prayer services. This year, we are walking through the life of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew. Today we pondered Jesus’ words from the Sermon on the Mount, “Ask and it will be given to you.” Some think this verse means that God is our personal genie whose purpose is to fulfill our own desires, hopes and dreams. A proper contextual understanding of this verse enables us to see that God is not interested in giving us what we think we need or want, but what He knows we need. As Jesus ended His prayer in the Garden of Gethsemene, we should always end our prayers with, “Not my will, but yours be done.” God probably knows what’s best for us anyway.
