History Students Journey Back in Time by Baking “Election Cakes”

Our country has certain traditions that have been passed down for centuries. One of those traditions that almost died out is making a comeback…at least at OSNAS. This tradition is the baking of “election cakes”. These are cakes that primarily women who did not possess the right to vote would bake and share with the men who had that right. This allowed them to offer hospitality, encourage voter turnout, and perhaps bend the ear of a potential voter. In the spirit of this tradition, the students of Ms. Leon’s 11th and 12th grade History class design some election cakes of their own. Each design was as unique as the individual personalities in her class. I can attest that the taste of the cakes was top-notch as well. As we move past the election season, we pray that our Country, President and newly elected officials will honor to our nation’s pledge of being one nation under God.

OSNAS Updates:

  1. Thank you to all the parents who were able to come out for Parent Teacher Conferences on Friday. I appreciate your willingness to receive and give feedback.
  2. We will be hosting a basketball league for grades 1-6 in December and January. This is for kids in OSNAS and in the community. It is at a very low cost and the kids will learn the game and hear about the Lord at each session. Click here for more info.
  3. We will be having our annual Thanksgiving feast for grades K-4 on Tuesday, November 26th. The feast will take place in the cafeteria from 11:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. All parents are welcome to join us for this celebration. We ask each grade to donate various items to help make the feast a success. Below is the list of items to bring in on the morning of the feast.
  4. OSNAS, in partnership with Operation Christmas Child, will be collecting gift boxes for impoverished children around the world. We will hand out directions in school to interested children and you can decide if you want to participate. The deadline for the boxes is Friday, November 22nd.
  5. The Parent-Teacher Mixer scheduled for this Saturday has been postponed.
  6. Tomorrow is Picture Make-Up Day for those students who were not here on the first Picture Day or for those parents who want their child’s picture retaken. Please let Mrs. Seaton know if this is you by emailing stephanie.seaton@osnas.org.
