Career Day at OSNAS

On Tuesday last week, students in grades 8-12 gathered in the chapel to listen to a panel of six professionals from six different careers. The purpose of this event was to get the students thinking of what interests and abilities God has given them and how they might use these gifts in a particular field of employment. In attendance, there was a periodontist, car mechanic, paralegal, automation engineer, school psychologist and principal. They shared how they entered into their career and how God had their hand upon the entire process.

I shared how I did not know which college, major or job I would have initially, but God led me one step at a time as I grew in various areas. In a pressure-filled world, it’s helpful to remember that only 25% of college students stick with their initially declared major and only 35% of people work in a career that is closely related to their major. It’s good to have a plan, but it’s also helpful to remember, “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails” (Proverbs 19:21).

OSNAS Updates:

  1. On Wednesday we will be having a Split Chapel in which grades 5-12 will be in the chapel from 8:15-9:00AM and grades K-4 will be there from 9:05-9:50AM. The topic of discussion will be a biblical understanding of body image. Longevity physician Dr. Gya will be coming in to share with us.
  2. Friday is our annual trip to Sight and Sound Theatre in Lancaster, PA. All students going on the trip should arrive at the school at 7:00AM. Students have the option to wear appropriate jeans with a Jesus Never Stops shirt. They can also wear OSNAS gym wear or their regular uniform. Cell phones will be permitted but tablets and video game consoles will not. We plan on returning to the school around 11:00PM. All students who are not going to the trip should be at school on Friday as learning will take place.
  3. If you haven’t already done so and would like to give a gift toward Teacher Appreciation Day on May 5th, you can do so by clicking here.
  4. Soundview Pregnancy Services is hosting a Walk for Life. I will be leading a school/church team if you would like to join me on that day. The short walk will take place at Blydenburgh Park at 9:15AM. You can register, sponsor a walker, or donate to the cause by clicking here.
  5. The Junior and Senior class is having a fundraiser for their Spring Formal at Ralph’s Italian Ice in Stony Brook. Ralph’s will be donating a portion of all proceeds from Saturday to the cause. Please consider giving yourself a treat on that day 🙂
