OSNAS 6th Grade Class Visits Sagamore Hill and Old Bethpage Village
The 6th grade class visited Teddy Roosevelt’s home in Oyester Bay on Thursday. The kids toured the inside of his house that is in practically the same condition as it was when he lived in it. There were a plethera of fascinating gifts from emperors and empresses who had much respect for the president whose visage was etched into Mount Rushmore. We learned that Teddy Roosevelt ran the country from this house for certain periods at a time. In his own domestic “oval office”, he kept the portraits of the people he admired most (George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, etc). The biggest and best, however, was the one of his father. Indeed, the influence of a father is monumental in the life of a child. If we want to tackle one societal problem that will positively effect every societal problem, we should focus on training up God-fearing fathers who love their wives and are invested in their children.
The students also visited Old Bethpage Village. This historical site hosts several buildings from the 1800s. The students gained insight into what life was like about 200 years ago. In the photo, they are sitting in a 19th century one-room schoolhouse on Long Island. I believe they now have a greater appreciation for indoor plumbing and thermostats. Also, imagine sleeping at an inn where you share not only your room but also the bed with 3 strangers. Yes, we are blessed!
OSNAS Updates:
- Thursday is our nation’s National Day of Prayer. We invite everyone to join us in the chapel at 2:40PM on Thursday. All students will be called up to the chapel at this time to sing and pray to God through student-led prayers. If you pick up your children at the end of the day, you can simply show up a little early to participate in this.
- Friday and Saturday are the performances of our upper school’s musical Alice and Wonderland. The shows will start at 7:45PM. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for youth ages 5-18. Concessions will be served. Come with your child for a night of zany, wholesome entertainment!
May the Lord bless and keep you!
