OSNAS Conducts Mock Trial Event at Central Islip District Court
Two of the hallmarks of a classical Christian education are the ability to think logically and communicate convincingly. This year we offered our ninth and tenth graders a mock trial class with the aim of developing these important life skills. As a culminating event, the students in Mr. Bennett’s class were given the opportunity to argue a case in front of a bona fide judge in an actual court room. The Honorable James Leonick presided over the case. The prosecution was headed up by Kaylah Gabriel, Charlotte Kearns and Anjali Caliendo who faced off against defense team Gabriel Gutierrez, Yulianna Moreno and Billy Kearns. The remaining students filled roles as witnesses, jury members and the bailiff. In the end, the jury found the defendant guilty, securing the victory for the prosecution. Kudos to all the kids who put in so much time and effort!

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that dayβand not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing” (2 Timothy 4:7-8).
